About
My name is Suzanne Phillips
As both an Acupuncturist and Functional Pharmacist, I take a comprehensive, integrative approach to healing—treating the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. While medications can play a supportive role in health, they are only one piece of a much larger picture. My work bridges the science of modern pharmacy with the time-tested wisdom of Eastern medicine to offer truly holistic care.

My
Story
Get to Know Me
I grew up in Frederick, Maryland, and I’ve always been drawn to math and science. With two scientists for parents, curiosity and discovery were part of my everyday life. In high school, I took every calculus and physics class I could, fascinated by how unseen forces shape the world around us.
I attended Washington and Lee University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to work in healthcare and help people live healthier, fuller lives. While volunteering in Rockbridge County, I met my future husband. After graduation, we married and moved away—but we always dreamed of returning to Lexington, Virginia, a community we absolutely adore.
Western Medicine Training
I completed my Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), Master of Public Health (MPH), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. After earning my degrees, I commissioned in the United States Army as a pharmacist (67E) and was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. Serving in the military was both challenging and deeply rewarding.
Following my active-duty service, I continued working at the same military hospital as a civilian pharmacist. There, I specialized in chronic disease management, helping patients navigate conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, chronic pain, and tobacco cessation. I also earned my Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS)—the highest distinction for a clinical pharmacist.
Over time, I became increasingly passionate about root-cause medicine, also known as functional medicine. I wanted to move beyond managing symptoms to truly understanding why illness develops. I completed all coursework through the Institute for Functional Medicine and began studying Eastern Medicine during my free time (though with three kids, “free time” is a generous term!).
Eastern Medicine Training
My curiosity led me to the Institute of Taoist Education and Acupuncture (ITEA), where I earned a Master of Acupuncture (MAc) degree in Classical Five-Element Acupuncture (CF-EA). This form of acupuncture focuses on diagnosing and treating energetic imbalances unique to each person—sometimes even before symptoms appear.
Through CF-EA, I learned to observe subtle sensory cues that reveal underlying patterns of imbalance and to support the body’s natural ability to heal itself. I’ve been honored to provide acupuncture treatments and holistic care to clients in both Colorado and Oregon.

Integrative Healthcare in Lexington, Virginia
Now, back home in Lexington, VA, I’m grateful to practice integrative medicine, blending the science of Western Medicine with the wisdom of Eastern Medicine. When people ask if I prefer one over the other, my answer is always an enthusiastic “Yes!” Both offer incredible value, and together they create a balanced, patient-centered approach to health and healing.
Wellness Philosophy
Rather than simply addressing symptoms, I focus on identifying and resolving the root causes of imbalance. This includes exploring how factors such as chronic inflammation, food sensitivities, toxicity, hormone shifts, gut health, sleep disruption, and stress impact your overall well-being.
Each acupuncture treatment is personalized and tailored to your unique needs. My goal is not to “fix” you, but to support your body’s natural capacity to heal—empowering you to feel more balanced, resilient, and at home in yourself.
I strive to provide a calm, compassionate space where you feel seen, heard, and supported. Whether you’re managing chronic symptoms, emotional stress, physical pain, or simply seeking greater harmony, I’m honored to walk alongside you in your healing journey.
